History

A Sense of Responsibility Through Parenthood

I was married at 30 and gave birth at 32.

After I had a child, my worldview changed.

I felt my attention increasingly drawn to the environmental and societal problems that the children of tomorrow will face in the future.

In addition, through my own struggles with child-raising, I began wondering what I could offer to society and how I could help parents who share the same troubles as me.

While I first considered volunteering, I felt that I could reach more people by creating my own business.

In October 2019, I started Bake a Cake, and in March 2020, I launched the brand “sunny u” with the desire to shine a warm light on children and the adults surrounding them.

As someone who had only ever worked under someone else, I initially had no idea what I was doing when starting the brand.

However, through the help of many people, it gradually grew into what you see today!

Frustrating to Effortless

Why did I decide to make towels?

In short, towels saved me when I was raising my child.

I was always worried about my son’s skin and nervous about what came into contact with it.

From the make and production area of the towel materials to the country of origin, texture, absorbency, and more, I had continuously searched for a towel that was safe to use on newborn babies.

During this time, I came across a kind of towel fabric called “Hyakunen no Kiwami” from an over 100-year-old established towel maker called “Oboro Towel” in Mie Prefecture.

Along with boasting lots of baby-safe certifications, the super soft and fluffy texture was exactly what I wanted!

Through my encounter with Oboro Towel, using a towel on my child went from frustrating to a relaxing, enjoyable time!

Through this experience, I became determined to deliver the same warmth and light to others facing similar worries and problems with towels.

Relief From Parent Struggles

When it comes to towels, what I focus on the most is texture!

Using threads more delicate and fine than regular towels, I was able to come up with a light and fluffy towel that feels incredibly soft on the skin.

It only very lightly brushes the skin, making it a truly “gentle” towel that can be used on newborn babies.

It is highly absorbent (4x regular towels), can absorb an incredible amount of water (5x regular towels), and is quick to dry. It’s the perfect towel for babies!

Rather than a lavish thickness like a luxury hotel towel, my towels were designed to be lightweight and easy to handle.

They are 100% cotton and manufactured and sown entirely in Japan.

The colors are easy to pair with baby clothes and were carefully designed to hide stains like milk and drool.
