History

From Dry Goods Wholesaler to Roasting Sesame Manufacturer

We are a specialized sesame manufacturer that takes care of sesame every day.

When Manjiro Wada, the first generation, founded the company in 1883 in Tenma, Osaka, it was a general dry goods wholesaler handling a wide range of products.

In 1946, after the war, Eizo Wada, the third generation, started a sesame business.

At that time, sesame seeds were washed in the Dojima River in front of the store and laid out on the riverbed to be dried in the sun and sold as "washed sesame”.

After that, we sold many commercial products, but in 1990, we started selling sesame sachets for home use, and gradually began to specialize in sesame.

In particular, Etsuji Wada, the fourth generation , continued to roast sesame seeds from morning to night for more than 40 years, striving to improve his skills.

In 2018, the fifth generation, Takehiro Wada, took over the business and has been exporting the sesame seeds overseas, especially in the U.S., where they are highly regarded and 15% of sales are now exported.

Rare Japan-produced Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds are indispensable to Japanese cuisine, but most of them are produced in foreign countries and less than 0.1% is produced domestically.

WADAMAN continues to protect the Japanese sesame, which has become such a rare commodity.

In addition to purchasing sesame seeds from contract farmers all over Japan, we also grow our own sesame seeds, roast them, and deliver them to our customers.

Japanese sesame seeds have an elegant and soft taste compared to foreign sesame seeds with a strong flavor.

Japanese sesame seeds are the best for enhancing the delicate taste of Japanese food, and can be used in tofu paste and soup to give a clean and beautiful taste.

The roasting process is characterized by a focus on deep roasting.

It takes only two minutes to roast sesame seeds.

If we roast them too deep, they will burn quickly.

The size of the grains and the amount of moisture vary from farmer to farmer, so we have to find the last possible moment to breathe life into the sesame seeds.

We are proud to say that our technique is the best in the world.

For Customers

We want people to be interested in sesame production.

Sesamin is the most famous component of sesame, but sesame is also packed with other essential nutrients such as fat, protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber.

Sesame seeds' unique ingredient, gomalignan, has a strong antioxidant effect and suppresses the action of active oxygen that promotes aging and lifestyle-related diseases.

However, the number of sesame farmers has been decreasing year by year, and the self-sufficiency rate is declining.

This is because sesame cultivation is very labor intensive.

There are no herbicides or farming machines on the market for sesame, so everything from sowing to harvesting has to be done by hand.

If this situation continues, Japanese sesame will disappear, so in addition to our own cultivation, we have started a "Sesame Field Owner System".

For a fee of 2,000 yen per unit, you can receive harvested sesame seeds, receive reports on their growth, and participate in sesame cultivation.
