This is a tatami rug using igusa (the woven rush) carefully selected from Japan that is long and has a length of over 136 cm, which is not available for 1% of raw material harvest. This product uses igusa (the woven rush) 3.2 times more amount than the popular product. Because it uses undyed dirty igusa (the woven rush) which is not dyed, it is shiny and has a very smooth touch. Also, by highlighting the coloring twice or using a dyeing method that can express light and elegant colors by changing dyes, I am dyeing the fine igusa (the woven rush). Since this dyeing method is hard to discolor and has a gloss, it highlights the fine quality. Woven is a six-layered six-layer weave that uses six colors igusa (the woven rush), compared to a two-layer structure that is more common in popular products. By incorporating igusa (the woven rush) in sixfold, it has excellent durability and volume. When weaving in, we use a special loom, we will keep an eye on our skilled craftsmen temporarily. Also, when finishing, use horsehair to polish the surface, glossy. On the rim is a precious fabric used for kimono called Kurume weave (traditional fabric of Kurume-shi, Fukuoka prefecture).

Materials, dyeing, weaving, finishing, products that are very rare value sticking to all processes. Purely, it is a finish suitable for calling the tatami mat of the highest quality.

About Creator & Maker

Igusa (the woven rush) contains "phytoncide" which is the fragrance ingredient of wood, and it has the same effect as forest bathing. It also has a strong deodorant effect and has the action of adsorbing and decomposing substances that cause all causes such as perspiration odor, aging odor, tobacco odor, pet odor, drainage odor, and garbage smell. Experiments have proved that this effect lasts more than 20 years. Also, there is moisture absorption and moisture absorption, about 2.5 times as much as cotton. It also has high antifouling properties, it can be cleaned simply by wiping with a firmly towel and it is easy. Also, tatami using inexpensive overseas igusa (the woven rush) may degrade in several years, discoloring, fraying, or deodorizing effect may be reduced, but IKEHIKO's products are the best Because it is a tatami rug using high-class Japanese-made igusa (the woven rush), it will not deteriorate like that.

130 years since its establishment, making Tatami using top grade rushs in Japan

In 1886, Hikotaro Ikegami first established Tatami sales in Fukuoka Prefecture, and since that 130 years ago, we have continued to make tatami stuck to quality by thoroughly using high quality grass from Kyushu. In 2012 we began our own cultivation of "Rush". As the production volume of "Rush" in Japan decreases, in order to inherit the herbal and tatami culture that continues from ancient times in Japan, we are developing products using our own "Rush". We cultivate our own "Rush" while reaping it, we will commercialize it with no processing. Therefore, there are features such as natural texture and soft touch are smooth and soft.
