The orge mask with the history of 1400 has protected Japanese houses and families as an evil spirit from ancient times, as an amulet. However, the number of houses that can decorate the orge mask on the roof is decreasing. Therefore, in order to match the modern architectural style, it is a product realizing a novel idea of "orge mask decorating in the room".

~ Onishi Tomoaki Ishikawa~

The spirit of respect for others has given birth to a gentle expression While praying that this piece would keep the home safe, Ishikawa put his heart and soul into the work. Strangely enough, this piece, which he crafted carefully by hand, has a tender expression. Perhaps because he was thinking about the end user while he fashioned the piece, the thought, please don't be frightening to the children" may have been at work.

About Creator & Maker

Oni Shi

Tomoaki Ishikawa

Tomoaki Ishikawa joined the company Ishiei in 1996. After that, he worked at Kaneko Onigawara Factory until 2007, when he returned to Ishiei. He has worked on onigawara for many buildings, including Kabukiza as well as multiple shrines and temples, including Shuzenji.

My philosophy

Onigawara for every building

Banishing all malice that draws near the home, they protect the family. Onigawara, which have played the role of talismans through the ages, are disappearing from ordinary houses due to recent diversification of housing styles. We felt we had to do something about this situation. This strong sense of duty became the driving force that produced onigawara iemori. Even in homes that don't use tiles, we can effect one home, one onigawara". Praying for that day to come, Tomoaki Ishikawa continues to carve oni with determination and purpose.

I was born to be onishi

He said that there was vague preparedness from the time he got the idea "to succeed the former generation and become onishi". He has a strong feeling for being handmade. In order to express the glossy finish which is also your preference, we stick to elaborate finishing using spatula and fingers.

Focus points

The tool is part of the body

Among various tools, attachment to "Gold spatula", which is indispensable for finishing, is strong. It is so delicate that it feels subtle distortion if it is used for a long time, and the effect on the finish is also great. It does not neglect maintenance like a part of the body.

For Customers

Always stand in the other party's position

To seriously face each work. And believe that it will continue. From experiences strongly felt for the challenge of having customers happy, we always stand in the customer's position and are making while feeling the face we are happy about.
