The orge mask with the history of 1400 has protected Japanese houses and families as an evil spirit from ancient times, as an amulet. However, the number of houses that can decorate the orge mask on the roof is decreasing. Therefore, in order to match the modern architectural style, it is a product realizing a novel idea of "orge mask decorating in the room".

~ Onishi Atsushi Yamashita~

Fortune comes to the laughing ogre

This is a praiseworthy laughing ogre. Its name is even shou kimen, or laughing ogre mask. This expression, bon of the wish that its end user might spend an entire year laughing, may even overturn the notion that ogres are frightening. The 12 Buddhist rosary beads signify the 12 months of a year.

About Creator & Maker

Oni Shi

Atsushi Yamashita

Having inherited the family business, while pursuing many avenues of training and education, Atsushi Yamashita zealously networked with craftsmen of other regions, accumulating expertise. Today he works independently as Oni Atsu, creating exclusively handcrafted oni products.

My philosophy

Encountering others has changed me

Under the tutelage of the leading onishi of the nation, Atsushi Yamashita, nourished by the wisdom thus gained, pursues individuality. His philosophy is to carefully and conscientiously complete each and every task, not to mass produce. Naturally he is technically fastidious, attentive to detail in the finishing process, taking great care with every element, even down to the meaning of the pattern: he has used. Even as an independent artist, he continues his devoted practice, in which "Every single day is a day of training".

In the spirit of "get used to, not to learn"

Most of the drawings are special. Restoration of cultural properties, etc., each drawing is drawing each time. For handmade recipes I learned myself from my own way, independent as onishi. By working on the spirit of "get used to, not to learn", it reaches the present.

Focus points

Awakening as onishi

I was grasping the tools from the age of 16, but honestly I did not understand the meaning of working. However, I was blessed with surrounding craftsmen, I was noticed by my existence value onishi way of life. "Life has changed due to encounters with good people."

For Customers

Can you feel the story of things

The restoration work will start with production taking into consideration the difference between the land and the era. By actually touching the actual thing, sometimes just measuring it, there are times when things themselves speak. I cherish the moment when invisible things are visible.
