Karakami paper was introduced from China during the Heian period and was initially used by the aristocracy for writing waka poetry and letters.
However, changes in lifestyle have led to a decline in residences with traditional Japanese rooms, reducing the demand for karakami as sliding door paper.
Amidst this trend, we launched “Keibifugetsu” with the desire to share the charm of this traditional karakami paper with more people.
Amidst the impact of reduced inbound tourism due to COVID-19, the “Keibifugetsu” project began through an encounter with sculptor and designer Hisakazu Suzuki.
“Keibifugetsu” is a completely new brand born from the collaboration between one designer and four traditional craftsmen.
We sincerely hope that, especially in this era dominated by smartphones and computers, you will experience the charm of “paper” through Keibifugetsu.
