Striving to be one of a kind

The predecessor to Hagihara Co., Ltd., "Hagihara Fuichi Shoten," was founded in 1892.

Leveraging the longstanding tradition of "igusa" (soft rush) cultivation in Okayama, it began by manufacturing and selling "flower mats" (hana-goza), which were popular at the time.

Today, we have grown into a company offering a wide range of interior goods.

Our logo, "Marufu," originates from the name "Hagiwara Fuichi," used by successive presidents.

It also carries the meaning of "one of a kind," evoked by the character "fu" (不), which can mean 'not' or "unique."

We have dedicated ourselves to rigorous quality control and sales efforts to deliver truly unique products to you.

Moving forward, we will continue to value relentless effort as we walk our path to create truly one-of-a-kind products.

Committed to materials that enhance daily life

Kurashiki City in Okayama Prefecture has long prospered through the production of igusa.

In 1878, Minki Isozaki, a native of Kurashiki, invented "Kinkan-en," a type of rush mat that features intricate and beautiful patterns created by using three times more warp threads than conventional flower mats.

It also features flexibility due to the use of thin yet strong igusa.

"Kinkan-en" became widely known worldwide as an art piece exported for its intricate craftsmanship and unparalleled beauty.

This culture is deeply rooted in Kurashiki, and the rush grass we have been dealing in since our founding has also been used as a raw material for tatami mats.

Its humidity-regulating properties have made it a material well-suited to Japan's climate since ancient times.

We aim to connect this time-honored Japanese material to the future by creating products that fit modern lifestyles.

Today, domestically produced rush grass products primarily use rush grass from Kumamoto Prefecture.

They are meticulously finished by artisans in Yanagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture.

We also select highly safe, Japanese-made chemicals for the production process, ensuring they are safe for skin contact.

Furthermore, we regularly inspect partner factories for other materials and are involved in every step from manufacturing to sales.
