"Kichijo-zu" is a collective term for paintings depicting auspicious subjects — cranes, tortoises, dragons, Mount Fuji, the Seven Lucky Gods, treasures, and more — all symbols of good fortune. Hokusai devoted much of his later career to these themes, pouring wishes for longevity, prosperity, and good luck into both hand-painted works and woodblock prints.
