What Is Agarwood — One of the World's Most Precious Incense Materials?
Agarwood forms when resin becomes embedded in the heartwood of Aquilaria trees, evergreens in the Thymelaeaceae family. Because of its high density — it actually sinks in water — it is also called "sinking fragrance wood." Its scent is remarkably complex, weaving together notes of sweetness, acidity, spice, bitterness, and saltiness. It is said to purify the air, calm the mind, and promote deep relaxation.
