Sansai Kobo was founded in 1994 in Kyoto, Japan, and is a studio that engraves Kyoto yuzen dyeing patterns.
Since its establishment, the company has continued to produce dyed patterns for kimono such as furisode (long-sleeved kimono) and yukata (summer kimono), and in 2003 became a traditional Kyoto yuzen craftsman designated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Currently, in addition to "kiri-kata," in which designs are hand-engraved by skilled craftsmen, and "silk-screen plate-making," in which transfers are made by shining light on them, we are developing our business while making full use of cutting-edge technology, such as "production of data for inkjet printing," which has become mainstream in recent years, and "laser processing" using several thousand different types of design data.
Wooden tableware produced with these new technologies is not only engraved but also painted in-house to express the gorgeous world of Kyoto yuzen and the skills of our craftsmen.
