Tohken gama was established in Kyoto in 2002 as a studio for Kiyomizu ware and Kyo ware.
Originally, pottery produced in Kyoto was recognized by the name of each kiln, but gradually the names "Kyo-yaki" and "Kiyomizu-yaki" took root and are now carefully passed down under the collective name.
Tohken gama is a kiln where skilled craftsmen carry on traditional craft techniques while young makers take on the challenge of creating things with new ideas.
Our goal is to create pottery that is not only highly valued as works of art, but also highly practical and easy to use.
