“Kobo Moku,” which has its studio in Hayama, Kanagawa, traces its origins to 1992, when Yasuo Ushijima began crafting while engaging deeply with wood.
Using domestic solid woods such as Japanese zelkova and Akita cedar, the studio continues to create tableware and furniture that fully bring out the natural character of the wood through the “ichiboku” technique—carving forms directly from a single piece of wood—and finishes using lacquer and natural oils.
This collection features an 8-sun plate made of Akita cedar finished with charred black lacquer, and a rectangular plate made of Jindai Akita cedar finished with natural lacquer.
