Coasters utilizing the technique of making Kyoto Yuzen molds

This coaster is one of the products that were created from the yuzen patterns applied to kimono. It is an item that allows you to easily incorporate the gorgeous world of Kyo Yuzen into your daily life.

Kyo-yuzen, which is the hand-dyeing of Japanese paintings, spread during the Edo period. In the Meiji period (1868-1912), katazome yuzen, which uses stencils, was born. The katazome yuzen molds are made by ”Yuzen Engravings”. They create delicate and beautiful products using “Kirigata”, in which designs are engraved by hand using tools such as small knives and round gouges, and laser processing, in which designs are engraved using design data that has been cultivated over the years.

Beautiful chrysanthemum flowers, three-dimensional design

The design of chrysanthemums with multiple layers of petals is very gorgeous and is often used for kimonos worn on special occasions such as furisode (formal kimono). Each petal is delicately cut out using laser processing technology.

The center of the coaster is not hollowed out like the outside, but if you look closely, you can see the carved, three-dimensional design.

Chrysanthemums may give a strong impression of Japanese style, but the design itself is more of an oriental image. In addition to glasses, it is easy to match with any tableware design, such as teacups.

Urethane finish makes it stain resistant

The coaster is made of Japanese cypress. The beauty of the wood grain is characteristic of this material, and it is also full of warmth. Weighing only 0.03 lbs (15g), it is light and strong, another advantage of wood. The diameter is approximately 3.62 in. (9.2cm), the same size as a standard coaster.

The surface is coated with a transparent urethane coating. This makes them resistant to stains and dirt. Since coasters may get wet due to condensation from glasses, it is nice to see that even the smallest details have been taken into consideration.
