Tsuchiyu kokeshi dolls from Fukushima Prefecture are known as one of the three major kokeshi dolls along with Togatta and Naruko from Miyagi Prefecture. The head is small and the body is thin. They are characterized by their unique, gentle, watchful expressions and simple colors.
Akihiro Konno, have inherited the tradition of Tsuchiyu Kokeshi dolls since the Edo period and have been making them with all my heart. While challenging myself to restore the works of my predecessors, I am also creating new styles of kokeshi dolls such as the “Kaguyahime kokeshi.
The appeal of these kokeshi dolls is that they are designed to fit in with modern lifestyles while preserving the techniques of the good old masters. We hope you will enjoy the unique nostalgia and simple colors of kokeshi dolls.
