History
The potential of clay created by the flame of tradition
Otani ware dates back to the Edo period.
It all started when a pottery craftsman born in Kyushu came to village of Otani to show off his potter's wheels skills and burned fire extinguishing pots.
ONISHI TOKI, the potter of Otani ware, was established in 1919.
The Matsuura Kiln, built in the early Meiji period, was inherited by Yonekichi Onishi, the first generation, and started as the ONISHI TOKI Manufactory.
Since then, while continuing to keep the flame of tradition burning, We have been exploring the infinite creativity of clay and the novel sensation of the encounter with the flame, and making daily efforts to create traditional and new works.
