【NEW ARRIVAL】KUROTANI WASHI COOPERATIVE GROUP|KUROTANI WASHI

Kurotani Washi is a rare craft that insists on pure handmade papermaking and is characterized by its strength, tear resistance, and longevity.

The Kurotani area, where the paper is produced, is a village along the Kurotani River that runs along the border between the cities of Ayabe and Maizuru in Kyoto Prefecture, and was established more than 800 years ago as a hiding place for the Heike clan.

Blessed with clear streams and high-quality kozo (paper mulberry), papermaking began as a way of earning a living and gradually developed into an important industry that supported the clan and the nation.

Although the world has since become increasingly mechanized, Kurotani Washi continues to be made using the handmade technique.

We have also developed a wide variety of products using washi paper, and proudly deliver the tradition of papermaking and the feelings that go into it.
