Maruni produces Karakami, a type of paper came to China with a history of over 1000 years.
This unique texture created by human hands and woodblock printing is the characteristic of our Kyoto Karakami.
The traditional patterns are hand-printed one by one using traditional paints mixed with mica (kira) and pigments.
Kyoto karakami has been used as sliding door paintings for a long time.
We will introduce in detail how they have keeping that tradition, changing its, and bringing it to the modern age.
