History
Bringing the Handwork of Tango Artisans to the World
We were established in 1936, manufacturing and selling the kimono fabric "Tango Chirimen".
However, after peaking in the early 1970s, the production of kimono fabrics declined steadily due to the shift away from Japanese clothing.
In 2008, when Yasuhiko Kusunoki, who had been working for a construction company in Tokyo, returned to his parents' home, he was impressed by the way craftsmen made things.
He then returned to Tango, where he was born and raised, and made up his mind to take over the company.
Kusunoki then became the third president of the company, and decided to shift from production using power looms to hand weaving.
In 2010, he launched "KUSKA", a clothing and accessories brand that focuses on the "handwork of artisans", based on the concept of "using old weaving techniques for today's lifestyle".
In recent years, KUSKA has been active in the world as a traditional hand-woven brand made in Japan, including a famous tie brand in Florence, Italy, and a very long-established, high-class, prestigious tailor for the British Royal Family.
Characteristic
The unique texture of hand weaving that cannot be produced by machines
KUSKA's products feature 100% silk woven fabric that incorporates 300 years of kimono techniques that have been cultivated in Tango.
From yarn making to dyeing, hand weaving, and product completion, we are committed to the handiwork of our craftsmen.
Because the weaving process varies depending on the yarn used for weaving, the climate, and the temperature, even the most skilled craftsmen can only weave two or three ties a day.
The artisans hand-weave the ties in a relaxed and airy manner without putting strong stress on the material.
This creates a heavy texture, a beautiful sheen, and a unique feel.
For Customers
Bringing the Beauty of Handwork to Everyday Life
KUSKA sells hand-woven neckties as its main product.
These ties are usually worn with suits and jackets, but recently they have also been incorporated into free style outfits, such as with caps.
KUSKA ties are hand-woven and hand-sewn to create a soft texture that cannot be found anywhere else, and we hope that you will handle them gently when fastening and unfastening.
We hope you will enjoy the beautiful handcrafted products made by artisans in Tango, Kyoto.
