History
A Leading Figure in Japan's Western Tableware Culture
Okura Art China was founded in 1919 by father and son Magobei and Kazuchika Okura, based on the principle of "making good things even better.”
At the time of the company's founding, both Magobei Okura and his son were regretful over the fact that the Western tableware used to entertain state guests and dignitaries were overwhelmingly produced by foreign manufacturers.
Therefore, the two began to produce artistic ceramics as a manufacturer of the finest Western tableware in Japan.
Also, at Okura Art China, where great care was taken in producing Western tableware that accompanied the lives of Japanese people, we tried to create products based on the aesthetic sense of the Japanese people by conveying the good qualities of Japan's four seasons through colors and by incorporating designs that delicately depicted trees and flowers.
Characteristic
The Beauty of White Porcelain and Our Original Techniques
With our products, we continue to pursue "whiteness in the color, hardness in the porcelain, and smoothness in the surface."
Due to the superb quality of our white porcelain tableware that is reminiscent to that of Sèvres’ blue tableware, the phrase "blue belongs to Sèvres, and white belongs Okura" has also been coined.
In order to create the beauty of perfect white porcelain, only the finest kaolin is luxuriously used as a material.
For the firing process, we have perfected outstanding techniques that are unparalleled in the world, such as glost-firing at an extremely high temperature of 1460 degrees.
In order to "create the finest works of art," which was Magobei Okura's dream when establishing the company, we have also developed numerous techniques and have formed our own unique beauty.
