History
A new brand from Arita, the birthplace of Japanese porcelain
UTSUÀ is a new brand from Arita, Saga Prefecture, the birthplace of Japanese porcelain, which has a 400-year history.
The brand name "UTSUÀ" was chosen to make it easier for people around the world to pronounce the Japanese word "Utsuwa".
The word "Utsuwa" is used not only for tableware, but also to indicate the size of a person, such as generosity and modesty.
So, the word "Utsuwa" expresses the idea of "accepting all cuisines, whether Japanese or Western".
As part of the 2016 Arita Yaki 400th anniversary project, this is a masterpiece designed by Dutch designer Timen Schmelders, who stayed in Arita.
