Koji Yuki
Art to Expand the Imagination
The artist created this print with the theme of "driftwood kamui” using a wood carving technique that has been passed down from generation to generation.
The artist explained how one day, he found a piece of driftwood at the mouth of the Ishikari River that looked like a wolf, but some people saw it as a dragon, and each person's imagination was different and quite interesting.
In the Ainu culture, women acted as storytellers and passed on education and stories to children through the oral tradition of yukaras.
The artist has been working energetically to convey the Ainu tradition of civility, prayer, and gratitude toward nature in the form of prints.
As interior decorations with a strong sense of presence, they are ideal as gifts.
