The Hon-aizome baby clothes are dyed with the blessings of nature using a traditional method that has been practiced since the Edo period in Tokushima Prefecture, the birthplace of indigo dyeing, without using any chemical dyes.
The color of indigo becomes darker as the dyeing process is repeated.
Among the various names given to indigo according to its hue, Aeru has chosen the color "aikachi iro," which is said to bring good luck because it is written with the character for "win.
It is a darker and deeper indigo color than navy blue, and is used by both boys and girls alike, as it is dyed about 30 times, with each dyeing process carefully repeated by craftsmen over several days while checking the dyeing condition.
