This is a rim plate of Kyoto's pottery, Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki. All processes of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki pottery are done by hand. For this reason, they are highly rare and valuable ceramics whose techniques have been carefully passed down from the Azuchi-Momoyama period to the present day.

Tohken-gama, which manufactures these plates, is a relatively new brand established in 2002. While skilled craftsmen continue the tradition of Kiyomizu-yaki, young artisans are taking on the challenge of creating new products.

The kiln's unique pieces, which combine high design and functionality, bring out the new appeal of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki pottery.

The " kannyu " is a beautiful gem that shows the attention to detail

This dish has a pattern of fine cracks throughout. This pattern is caused by " Kannyu," one of the decorative techniques of ceramics. The cracks are caused by the difference in shrinkage between the glaze and the base material, and are formed during the cooling process after being removed from the kiln.

From a distance, the color appears nuanced with a slight pinkish tinge. The rim of the plate appears slightly reddish, and despite its simple shape, it is a gem in which attention to detail is evident. In addition to the warmth of the handwork, the "taste" of the penetration further enhances the plate.

The entire dish is decorated with a cracked pattern, but the dish itself is white, making any dish look colourful and vibrant.

The entire plate is a 10.24 in. (26cm) platter that can be used for main dishes such as meat and fish, side dishes such as salads, a la carte dishes such as pasta, and fruit platters. It is recommended as a one-plate dish for mornings and lunches, as well as for entertaining guests.

Shallow rim near flat

Like the front of the plate, the pattern of penetration extends well into the back of the plate. It is approximately 0.59 in. (1.5cm) high and not very deep. It has the appearance of a flat plate, but the rim makes it possible to serve dishes with a little liquid.

It is also moderately thick, but weighs only 1.15 lbs (520g), not too heavy for a plate of this size, another point for ease of use. No matter how many plates you have, they take up little space when stacked and stored.
