Satsuma faceted glass, said to be a phantom of faceted glass

Satsuma faceting was produced in the Satsuma Domain (present-day Kagoshima Prefecture) at the end of the Edo period and was called "phantom faceting" because it was produced for only about 20 years. The technique of Satsuma faceting once ceased to exist, but it was restored about 100 years later, and the technique has been handed down to the present as a traditional craft.

Glass is one of the easiest items of tableware to incorporate into daily life. We recommend that you welcome a glass made by traditional handcrafts as a special tableware.

Deep color gives a calm impression of Satsuma brown

Satsuma faceting is made by covering the surface of transparent crystal glass with colored glass at least 1 mm thick, cutting it deeply, and polishing it. The "blurring" of colors produced in this process is the most distinctive feature of Satsuma faceting.

The glass uses a brown color that was created as a new color. Satsuma Bidoro Kogei, the company that produces this product, succeeded in producing brown color for the first time in the industry in 2014. Although the color is deep, the pattern expressed by cutting is beautiful with gentle shading and full of warmth.

The luxurious cutting all the way to the bottom of the glass makes the reflection of light on the glass so beautiful that you can't help but admire it.
