History

Lacquer and lacquerware only

We, Isuke Shoten, were founded around 1830 at the end of the Edo period.

At that time, the company refined lacquer and sold it to lacquerware production areas throughout Japan.

We later expanded our product line to include materials other than lacquer such as paints and dyeing and weaving materials.

As the company developed trust with local lacquer producers in Kyoto and other areas, it began to sell not only lacquer but also lacquerware as a finished product.

In 2014, we launched a new lacquerware brand called "Isuke" with overseas and Japanese advisors and designers.

Since 2006, we have participated in exhibitions in New York, Paris, Shanghai, and other cities, and we have also started selling lacquerware online.

We hope to make the appeal of lacquerware known not only in Japan but also to people around the world.
