Satsuma faceted sake cup, said to be a phantom of faceted glass

Sake cup feature 1

Satsuma faceted sake cup, said to be a phantom of faceted glass

Satsuma faceting was produced in the Satsuma Domain (present-day Kagoshima Prefecture) at the end of the Edo period and was called "phantom faceting" because it was produced for only about 20 years. The technique of Satsuma faceting once ceased to exist, but it was restored about 100 years later, and the technique has been handed down to the present as a traditional craft.

Sake cups are one of the easiest items of tableware to incorporate into daily life. We recommend that you welcome sake cups, a traditional handicraft, as a special tableware item.

Satsuma faceted sake cup with a design resembling Sakurajima and a chic black color

Sake cup feature 2

Designed to look like Sakurajima and chic black color

Satsuma faceted glass is made by covering the surface of transparent crystal glass with colored glass at least 1 mm thick, cutting it deeply, and polishing it. The "blur" created by this process is the most distinctive feature of Satsuma faceted glass.

The chic black color is used for this glass. Satsuma Bidoro Kogei, the company that produces these sake cups, succeeded in producing the industry's first black color in 2006.

The face-down state features the motif of Sakurajima, the symbol of Kagoshima, and its gently curved shape is also elegant. Even the bottom of the glass is lavishly cut, making it so beautiful that it is hard not to admire.

Sake Cup Feature 3

This sake cup is a traditional craft with delicate techniques, yet it is very modern and stylish. Just by adding it to your table setting, it will add a splash of color to your table.

It is also good to use for special occasions, when you want to enjoy a meal or a drink at a leisurely pace, or for those precious moments spent with your loved ones. We also recommend using it when entertaining guests.

At first glance, it may seem difficult to coordinate tables, but it is easy to match with both Japanese and Western tableware and is a powerful ally that adds a touch of glamour to any occasion.

Solid thickness and good capacity

Details of cups1

Solid thickness and good capacity

Sake cups are drinking vessels made for drinking sake. You can feel the taste of the sake straight away when drinking sake from a glass sake cup, compared to a tin or ceramic sake cup.

This sake cup measures approximately 7.5 cm in diameter and 4.3 cm in height, weighing approximately 120 g. It has a firm thickness characteristic of Satsuma faceted glass toward the bottom. The capacity is 80ml, a little larger than a choko, a size often seen in common sake cups.

It is not only a great way to drink sake, but also stylish when used as a small bowl for serving a single dish.

Satsuma faceted glass in a series of three colors, and we recommend having different colors.
