Satsuma faceting was produced in the Satsuma Domain (present-day Kagoshima Prefecture) at the end of the Edo period and was called "phantom faceting" because it was produced for only about 20 years. The technique of Satsuma faceting once ceased to exist, but it was restored about 100 years later, and the technique has been handed down to the present as a traditional craft.

The chic black color is used for this beer glass. Satsuma Bidoro Kogei, the company that produces these glasses, succeeded in producing black color for the first time in the industry in 2006. Cutting black glass, which does not allow light to pass through, is an advanced technique that requires many years of experience and intuition. It also takes two to three times longer than usual to produce this elaborate product.
